In this workshop participants will consider the ways strangeness works in poetry. Is it a device used
to bamboozle, alienate and exclude readers, or is there a more democratic, plural element to poems which are perceived as being difficult? Anthony Anaxagorou will be asking how we as readers can participate in such poems in a way that feels true and enjoyable. There will be a chance to close-read some contemporary poetry which uses a similar mode and have a go at writing poems which blur the edges of a subject, take risk and invite the reader in.
