Short Course for Experienced Writers Led by Nicole Sealey, Monday 4 July – Wednesday 6 July, £70

On this short course participants will have the opportunity to workshop two poems. One with the group on the first day and one in an individual feedback session with Nicole Sealey. Therefore you will need to come prepared with 10 copies of your first poem for Monday and 1 copy of your second poem for your individual session on Tuesday or Wednesday. The course ends with a performance when each participant will read their two poems.

Day 1. Workshop:
Seeing is Believing: Drafting the Lasting Image
Monday 4 July, 10am – 4pm (lunch break between 12noon and 2pm), Heritage Centre

In The Poet’s Companion, Kim Addonizio and Dorianne Laux argue that images should “produce a bit of magic, a reality so real it is ‘like being alive twice.’” As poets, after mining our respective memories, how do we deepen a reader’s experience with the poem via the image? How does one draft a lasting image? This workshop will explore the image, its implications, as more than mere scenery. To do this, participants will review poems with images that reverberate and re-imagine their own poems with images that idle.

Days 2/3. One to One Session with Nicole Sealey
Tuesday 5 or Wednesday 6 July  The Poetry House
You will be allocated a time slot after you book your place on this course.

Day 3. Public performance on Wednesday 6 July, 4pm – 5pm, Ledbury Poetry House.
Participants will perform two poems.
