1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Group translation of a poem from German (with gloss provided, so no knowledge of German required), by Paul Celan. The workshop will begin with some background on the poet and context for the work, followed by the translation. At the end, existing translations are provided so participants can see differences between our joint translation and others. This session will take in some of the ideas explored in the session called Reading Ivor Gurney, on how the style of a poem works, but it will not be essential for participants to have attended the morning session.
